It’s not without reason that Australia is one of the most popular destinations for students looking to pursue a degree abroad. Combining world-class universities and teaching quality with a great way of life, hospitality, friendly climates and a welcoming student body, it’s not hard to see why Australia is near the top of the list for most students looking to study abroad. In 2017 alone, 799,371 international students had been enrolled in education programs across Australia, of which nearly 351,000 were in higher education.

So why Australia?

It goes without saying that Australia is home to some of the world’s best educational institutions. In addition to ANU - Australia National University, one of the best in the world, the nation is also home to the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, which are consistently ranked amongst the best in the world.

For engineering, Australia is a particularly good option, considering the diverse range of engineering courses offered in universities across the country. No matter what specification of engineering it is, detailed courses are on offer for students looking to pursue them. Universities across Australia offer everything from electrical and civil engineering to advanced aerospace engineering, marine engineering, renewable energy engineering and more. This gives students the opportunity to specialize in more diverse fields of study than they might be able to, in India. That diversity also provides them with the option to either pursue advanced research in those fields or choose from a far wider range of career options than previously available.

Scholarships are generously available

In addition to the large range of courses available to those looking to pursue engineering in Australia, there are also many scholarships accessible to students. Research shows anywhere between 300-500 scholarships, of varying amounts and across various disciplines are concentrated on engineering. For instance, as of October 2019, there are currently over 522 scholarships available to those pursuing mechanical engineering in Australia, while there are 524 for those pursuing civil engineering alone. This is consistent across disciplines, meaning that students can pursue their desired degree with peace of mind, without having to worry about loans or any form of educational debt ahead of building their future.

Finding work after graduation

Unlike several other countries that are unfriendly towards students pursuing work after the completion of their degree, Australia is a melting pot of opportunities for foreign students. In fact, according to a survey of international students graduating from Australian universities, anywhere between 71 and 77% of them had secured full-time employment in their respective fields. According to research, international graduates from the University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales and the University of Queensland were among the most likely to get employment after their degree. In fact, the biggest engineering graduate hires in Australia are been made by Google.

Welcoming to international students, in terms of ease of access, monetary access as well as in sentiment, Australia is a great place for international students, particularly those pursuing engineering.
