Canada is one of the most popular destinations for Indian students to study abroad. While Canada offers the best education, they offer two types of educational institutions: Universities and Colleges.

In India, both may sound similar and have almost the same value and reputations, that’s not the case in Canada. Below are the distinctions that make both Universities and Colleges unique from each other.

Programs offered

In Canadian Universities, students are offered various undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. International students can also attend Ph.D. programs at top universities in Canada.

The colleges in Canada are known for their post-secondary Diploma programs. The one-year post-graduate program is called Graduate Certificate while in 2 years PG program students will receive a Graduate Diploma.

Recognition

Universities in Canada hold more value and weight than colleges. Canadian universities are globally recognized institutions that provide students with the topmost faculty, facilities, and programs.

Campus facilities

Universities are generally bigger in size compared to colleges. They have multiple buildings and facilities that are perfect for all the programs offered at the University. Universities provide students with extensive state-of-the-art facilities and sports-related programs. Students in a university are allowed to take up any activity or learn outside their chosen program. This option is not something offered to College students. At the universities, students can join student unions and clubs based on their interests and hobbies. University develops the overall knowledge and well-being of students than just focusing on academics as the Canadian colleges do.

Tuition fees

The tuition fees at Canadian universities are more highly-priced and more expensive than general colleges.

The tuition fees vary from CAD 25-40K for Bachelor programs and the fees are around CAD 50K for the Master’s program in Universities. While the tuition fees at the College level is literally half of that of universities (approx CAD 12K).

Universities even though they are a bit more expensive, offer scholarships and financial aid to students. These options are also feasible for international students.

Work opportunities

Canadian colleges are known to attain the skills required by you to land the job of your dreams. The programs at Colleges focus more on developing technical, and soft skills needed at the job place.

While the programs in Universities are likely based on academic learning and research. The content is more research-based rather than practical-based, which is focused on Canadian colleges.
